Course Requirements for Liberal Studies Majors 

The Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies will require a
minimum of 127 credit hours: 

30 General Education credit hours
*58 Liberal Studies Subject Matter credit hours
*27 Liberal Studies Core credit hours which includes
12 units of a chosen concentration, 9 of which are upper division.
*9 Required credits in Education
3 Elective credit hours

*Must pass with a “C” or higher 

The Liberal Studies Major meets the California state legal requirements for a multi-subject background for teachers in non-departmentalized classrooms.  It prepares future teachers to pass the state-required subject matter examination (CSET).
