Mentoring and Application
At San Diego Christian College we are convinced that true education is more than just the impartation of information. Learning occurs when something is understood and applied. Information without application is indoctrination. Learners don’t necessarily act on what they know, they act on what they believe. Our desire is to aid in the process of discovery. One thing we find to be true of our students is that they desire a relationship with their instructors. They want to see if what we teach in the classroom is consistent with how we live. To learn from us they need to know we are real. In view of this we try to make ourselves available to our students outside the classroom. In this context we are able to develop a relationship with our students that provide an opportunity for greater access to their lives and arena of learning.
True learning is collaborative and social in nature. All of our classes are a combination of course content and exercises that promote the application of what is learned. This is accomplished by providing an opportunity to talk about what is being learned in an open and honest environment. We do our best to create an academic environment in the classroom and mentoring atmosphere outside to produce students who are both educationally fit and spiritually prepared to impact the world for Christ.
