La Mirada, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College women’s basketball team was unable to overcome a big second half from the Biola Eagles as SDCC’s first trip to the GSAC tournament since 99-00 ended with a 65-53 loss on the Eagles’ home court in front of a large contingent of SDCC fans.

SDCC jumped up early on a three pointer by Brittany Daniel and held the lead until the 13:20 mark, when Biola went on a modest 6-0 run to take the lead at 9-6. SDCC would regain the lead a few moments later, when consecutive buckets from SDCC’s Juanita Lewis (pictured left) and Daniel gave the Lady Hawks a 10-9 lead.

Both teams went back and forth, knotting the game at 14-14, when the Lady Hawks went on a 6-1 run to grab a 20-15 lead when Lewis nailed a turnaround jumper with 3:50 left in the half.

The Eagles would knock down free throws late in the first half to cut the SDCC lead to 22-19 at intermission.

SDCC came out in the second half and forced a Biola turnover on their first possession. On the ensuing possession, Daniel nailed a three pointer to put SDCC up 25-19. The Eagles immediately responded with a 10-2 run to recapture the lead at 29-27.

The Eagles would remain in the lead until Brittany Robinson knocked down a three pointer with 12:04 left in the game to put SDCC back up 36-35. The Eagles attacked right back, going on a 10-0 run to take the lead to 45-36. SDCC came back again, with three pointers from Heather Servin and Daniel, and a layup from Lewis, to cut the BU lead to 47-44 with 5:20 left on the clock.

The Eagles, undeterred by the loud SDCC fanbase, held SDCC scoreless for over the next four minutes and went on a 9-0 run to take their lead into double digits at 56-44 with 1:26 on the clock. SDCC finally got back on the board when Serven knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:14 left on the game.

The Lady Hawks made a late push with a Robinson three pointer and Daniel layup, but SDCC could not overcome Biola’s free throw shooting down the stretch and the Eagles captured the victory.

SDCC was led by Daniel with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Lewis added 12 points. Biola was paced by Charisse Reece with 18 points and Adijat Adams with 14 points.

The Lady Hawks end their season with a 20-11 record. The 20 wins on the season are a school record.
