El Cajon, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College women’s basketball team built a 21-point lead in the first half, only to see the Biola Eagles stage a comeback to capture a 48-45 victory. The win clinches the fourth place finish for the Eagles, who may turn around and host SDCC in the opening round of the GSAC tournament. The Lady Hawks will find out their first round matchup after Saturday’s games.

SDCC falls to 19-10 (9-10) with the loss. Biola moves to 19-9 (10-7) with the win.

The Lady Hawks jumped all over the Eagles in the first half, putting on a dominating performance and building a 25-4 lead at the 6:30 mark in the first half. Biola chipped away at the lead, closing out the first half on a 10-0 run to make the Hawk lead 25-14 at the break.

The Eagles kept their momentum going in the second half, continuing to cut into the Hawks’ lead. Biola capped off a 26-5 run to make the game 31-30 with 9:44 left in the game. Heather Serven then drilled a three pointer on an assist from Brittany Daniel (pictured left), and Brittany Robinson received a long pass from Daniel for a layup and pushed the Hawk lead to 36-30.

Biola continued to remain in the game, responding to any small run the Lady Hawks would make.

SDCC remained in the lead for most of the second half, until Biola tied the game with 2:46 on the clock and took the lead with 1:48 left in the game for the first time and pushing their lead to 46-42 with :39 on the clock. SDCC would respond when Serven nailed a three pointer with :29 remaining. SDCC was forced to foul and the Eagles knocked down a pair of free throws to put Biola up 48-45. SDCC had one more chance, but Robinson’s three point attempt didn’t fall as time expired.

SDCC was led by Daniel with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Robinson and Jasmin Thomas added 8 points each.

The Lady Hawks shot 16-50 (32.0%) for the game and held Biola to 20-59 (33.9%) shooting.
