El Cajon, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College baseball team dropped a pair of games to Patten University on Saturday, falling 5-4 and 8-2.

In game one, the Hawks struck first. After a scoreless two innings, the Hawks got on the board when Victor Martinez and Nick Bando had consecutive singles to start the bottom of the third. After a strikeout, SDC’s Garrison McLagan hammered a pitch over the right field wall for his third homerun of the season, putting SDC up 3-0.

Patten got on the board with a pair of runs in the 6th off of SDC starter Lucas Whitmore to cut the lead to 3-2. After SDC was held scoreless in the bottom of the 6th, Patten scored a pair of unearned runs off of reliever Jeremy Blare on two Hawk errors to take a 4-3 lead heading into the 8th.

SDC knotted the game back up when McLagan led the 8th off with a double and advanced to third on a deep flyball to right field from Jeff Lusardi. After a strikeout and pop up, McLagan scored a wild pitch to tie the game 4-4 moving to the 9th.

McLagan came into pitch in the 9th in relief of Blare. After an initial strikeout, Patten’s Don Hogan drilled a 1-0 fastball over the leftfield wall to give the Lions the lead.

SDC threatened in the bottom of the 9th, loading the bases with one out. The Lions, however, were able to get out of the jam with the win.

In game one, Bando was 3-4 to lead the Hawks. McLagan and Tyler Bailey were each 2-4.

Game two saw Patten take an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, when the Lions had three singles of SDC pitcher Dylan Jones.

SDC responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of third. With one out, Richard Aguirre singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Andy Salcido then singled up the middle to drive in Aguirre, tying the game at 1-1. Later in the inning, Nick Bando would drive in Salcido with a single.

Patten added four runs in the top of the 5th and three in the top of the 7th to take the game 8-2. SDC never threatened again and was limited to only three hits by Patten pitcher Tyler Provost.

With the losses, SDC falls to 3-5 overall.

The Hawks continue play on Friday, February 10 hosting Cal State San Marcos for a double header starting at 11:00am
