The San Diego Christian College women’s basketball couldn’t hold off a big second half from the Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions, as the Lady Hawks fell 70-61 on Tuesday night.
The loss sends SDC to 16-7 overall and 5-6 in the GSAC. The Lady Sea Lions move to 14-9 overall and 5-6 in the GSAC. The result of the game puts both PLNU and SDC into a four-way tie in fourth place in the conference with Biola, and Fresno Pacific.
The Lady Hawks used a 13-2 run halfway through the first half to grab an eight point lead, when SDC’s Hannah Miller scored 11 points in a two minute span, including hitting three shots from beyond the arc. PLNU came back and was able to build their largest lead of the of the first half at 29-24, but SDC closed out the first half with a 9-3 run and Miller made a layup as time expired in the first half to send SDC into the locker room with the lead.
The first half was closely contested as there were seven ties and eight lead changes. Miller lifted the Lady Hawks with 18 first half points.
PLNU started the second half on an 11-2 run to take the lead. After SDC’s Brittany Robinson nailed a three pointer at the 11:42 mark to cut the Sea Lion lead to 49-44, PLNU rolled off a 13-2 run to take their biggest advantage at 62-46 with just over five minutes to play.
The Lady Hawks refused to give up, going on a 13-4 run to cut the lead to single digits with just under a minute left in the game. PLNU, however, knocked down free throws late and held on for the win.
SDC was led by Miller with 20 points for the Lady Hawks. Robinson added 11 points.
PLNU used a combined 54 points from Nyla Bailey and Crissa Jackson in the win.
The Lady Hawks shot 32.4% (24-74) from the field for the game, while PLNU shot 51.9% (27-52).
SDC hosts Westmont College on Saturday, February 4th with the game scheduled for a 5:30pm tip.
