More importantly, the victory moves SDC from a four way tie in the conference into sole possession of fourth place. In addition, SDC is now one win away from tying the single season record for wins (17 in 99-00).
“We really stressed starting off the second round of GSAC play right,” said Head Coach Kelsey Dillon. “We knew we needed to step up our defensive effort.”
SDC jumped out quickly, going on a 14-4 run over the first five minutes of the game. The Lady Hawks held a double figure lead for the rest of the first half, even stretching the lead to 31-15, before heading into halftime up 33-20.
The second half saw TMC get right back into the game with a 13-1 run over the first seven minutes of the second half to cut the SDC lead to 34-33. The Lady Hawks maintained their lead until the Mustangs took their first lead of the game at the 9:49 mark and stretched their lead to their largest at 46-41 with 8:57 remaining.

TMC took the lead with :58 left in the game at 60-59. After the Hawks were unable to score and the Mustangs got the ball back, SDC’s Michelle Gonzales collected a steal to give SDC the ball. After a timeout, Robinson was fouled with :13 left and made 1-2 free throws to tie the game at 60-60.
On the ensuing possession, TMC’s Lindsey Levanen was fouled with :06 remaining on an offensive rebound. Levanen made the first free throw, but missed the second and the rebound was hauled in by SDC’s Brittany Daniel. The Lady Hawks called timeout with :02 left in the game, trailing 61-60.
Out of the timeout, Daniel delivered a beautiful pass to Robinson who caught the pass, drove, and pulled up and nailed the jumper as time expired to give SDC the 62-61 lead.
The Hawks were led by Robinson (16 points) and Daniel (25 points), who combined for 41 of the teams 61 points. Jasmin Thomas added four assists and Michelle Gonzalez had five steals.
SDC shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field for the game, including 46.7% (14-30) in the first half. The Lady Hawks forced 21 Mustang turnovers and held TMC to 28.6% shooting in the first half.
After the game, Coach Dillon praised her team’s ability to sustain the Mustang attack, adding, “Master’s came out on fire in the second half and we were a little complacent."
“But I know we will always fight. There is too much on the line at this point of the season.”
