Azusa, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College Lady Hawks faced yet another difficult test on Friday night, heading to Azusa Pacific for a matchup with the #13 ranked Lady Cougars. SDC, playing without leading scorer Brittany Daniel who missed the game with strep throat, fell at the hands of hot shooting APU squad 94-60.
APU never trailed in the game, and jumped out quickly to a lead. The Lady Hawks hung tough and cut the lead to 12-9 on a Brittany Robinson (pictured left) three pointer. APU then capitalized on a 13-4 run to push their lead into double digits at the 10:03 mark. SDC went on small runs and cut the APU lead back to 32-28 when Robinson drilled a three with 3:38 left in the first half.
The Lady Cougars closed out the first half on another 13-4 run and went into the locker room with a 45-34 advantage.
Coming out in the second half, the Lady Hawks were able to cut the lead back to single digits at 49-41, but the Lady Cougars’ 15-4 run over the next five minutes pushed the lead up to 64-45 and the lead became too much for SDC to overcome.
The Lady Hawks were led by Robinson with 19 points. As a team, SDC shot 32.4% (11-34) from the field in the second half after shooting 48.1% (13-27) in the first half.
APU had four players score in double figures, led by Center Amber Williams with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
“We had a hard time containing their inside play,” said Head Coach Kelsey Dillon. “We have to be able to play tougher defense to beat good teams.”
“We now have to shake this off and focus on Biola.”
