Tue., Dec 20th, 2011 Rocklin, Calif. --
The San Diego Christian College women’s basketball team completed their Northern California road trip with a convincing 64-42 victory against William Jessup University on Wednesday afternoon. The win caps a two game Northern California trip which included a win over Simpson University on Tuesday, and sends SDC to 10-2 overall and made them winners in nine of their past ten games.
“This was a tough trip with all the driving and cold weather,” said Head Coach Kelsey Dillon. “We stepped up and pulled out two wins, which made the trip worthwhile.”
“It feels great to be 10-2.”
The first half was an even affair as SDC went into the locker room up 27-22 despite shooting only 30.8% (8-26) from the field. Fortunately for the Lady Hawks, six of their eight field goals were three pointers which helped them maintain their advantage.
The Lady Hawks stuck with their gameplan in the second half that included a full court press. The up and down nature of the attack and the depth of the SDC bench was too much for WJU, as SDC blew the game open behind a 35 point second half. The depth of the Lady Hawks’ bench was evident as 11 different players scored in the game.
SDC was led by Brittany Daniel with 21 points on 8-13 shooting, including 3-5 from beyond the arc. Heather Serven was the only other Hawk in double figures with 11 points. Brittany Robinson (pictured left) added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
SDC shot only 37.9% from the field for the game, but shot 40% (8-20) from deep. The Lady Hawks forced 21 turnovers and out-rebounded the Warriors 34-26, including 14-7 on offensive rebounds. .
SDC takes short break for Christmas before heading to Westmont College for games against CSU Maritime and Pacific Union on December 29th and 30th.
