Pomona, CA --Playing in the first non-exhibition road game for the San Diego Christian College women’s basketball team saw the Lady Hawks fall behind after the initial bucket was made by the hosts Pomona-Pitzer; it was the only time the Lady Hawks would trail all game. SDCC went on a 17-3 run over the next 9:00 to take control of the game in route to a 77-49 victory over the Sagehens.
With the win, the Lady Hawks move to 3-1 on the early season. The Sagehens fall to 0-1.
The first half was dominated by the Lady Hawks, led by senior Brittany Robinson’s (pictured left) 16 points. The big key for SDCC, were the 10 offensive rebounds which gave the Lady Hawks extra possessions on the offensive end. PPU went on a small run midway through the first half to cut the lead to single digits at 23-14, but the Lady Hawks responded with a 12-4 run to end the half with a 35-18 advantage.
The Lady Hawks continued to roll in the second half, outscoring the Sagehens 42-31 in the second stanza to take the game 77-49.
SDCC was led by Robinson with 23 points on 9-13 shooting, in addition to collecting 7 assists. Brittany Daniel added 15 points and Jasmin Thomas chipped in 12 points. Jermani Stewart had 8 points to go along with 11 rebounds (6 offensive).
The Lady Hawks continued their tenacious defense, forcing 30 turnovers and converting those turnovers into 38 points. In addition, SDCC collected 22 steals as a team. SDCC out-rebounded PPU 41-31 and displayed unselfish play by dishing out 17 assists as a team.
