San Diego, CA--Faced with the adversity of only suiting up seven players is
difficult enough; couple that with playing on the road against NCAA Division I
University of San Diego and it proved to be a difficult task for the Lady Hawks
of San Diego Christian College. SDCC fought hard, but fell 87-48 in an exhibition
contest against the Toreros on Saturday afternoon.
“We have continued our tough road with only seven girls,”
said Head Coach Kelsey Dillon. “I am proud of the how we fought and worked hard
against their huge roster.”
USD jumped out quickly on the Lady Hawks, scoring the first
five points of the game. SDCC responded on a jumper by Jasmin Thomas and a
three by Heather Servin. The Toreros went back on top and went on a 20-6 run to
take a commanding lead that they would maintain throughout the game.
Dillon added, “It was good for us to be able to work on our
offense against such a tough defense. We faced a really tough defense and this
will prepare us for any team we face this season.”
Brittany Robinson led SDCC with 15 points and four rebounds.
Brittany Daniel added 12 points for the Hawks. SDCC’s defense forced 18
turnovers and limited USD to 1-6 from the three point line in the second half.
Dillon said she was happy with the effort from her team,
adding, “The main thing is fighting to the end. We never gave up through all the
adversity.”
The Lady Hawks continue their season on Friday, November 11th at home
versus Arizona Christian University.
