El Cajon, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College volleyball team took a little while to get going on Tuesday night, but when they finally did, they were dominating in a sweep of Hope International University 25-23, 25-15, 25-18.

The Royals led much of the first game, including taking a 23-19 lead late. SDCC used straight kills from Lauren Howard to cut the lead to one 23-22, and Stephanie Rice led them to a game one win with three straight points while serving.

SDCC started out strong in game two scoring the first five points behind Cassidy Merten’s serves and a pair of Howard kills. The lead ballooned to 14-3 until HIU battled to cut into the SDCC lead. The Hawks would be not be deterred as they continued to take point after point and won the game 25-15.

The third game continued from where the second one left off, as SDCC jumped out quickly to a 10-3 lead. After a small Royal run, the Hawks put the game away behind a .483 hitting percentage and 16 kills.

The SDCC attack was led by Aja Walker, Lauren Phillips, Shelby Broberg, and Howard, who combined for 34 kills. Walker hit .529 for the game, while Broberg hit .417 and Mariah Boelk hit .357. In addition, Mertens had 33 assists and Stephanie Rice had 16 digs.
