Azusa, Calif. -- Playing the final road game of the season on Saturday, the
San Diego Christian College men’s soccer team pulled a difficult task: trying
to find a way to defeat the #11 Azusa Pacific Cougars. After an even first
half, the Cougars scored three goals in the second to take the game 3-0.
The loss sends SDCC to 3-9-1 and 1-5 in the GSAC, while APU
moves to 10-2-1 and 4-1-1 in the GSAC.
The Hawks fought tough in the first half, equaling the shots
by APU, to head into half with a scoreless score.
APU scored quickly in the second half, when they were able
to sneak a ball past keeper Cameron Riley, when Riley saved a shot. However,
the ball deflected to APU’s Nathan Nuehuis who knocked it into the goal.
The Cougars scored two goals late (87th and 88th
minutes) to put the game away.
Riley played all 90 minutes in goal for SDCC, collecting six
saves.
SDCC heads home for a matchup with Vanguard on Tuesday,
October 25th at 3:00pm.
