] El Cajon, Calif. --
On a night when the San Diego Christian College volleyball team wore pink jerseys and included a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness, the game itself was not kind to the Hawks, as the #21 rated Vanguard Lions swept SDCC 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.
The first game saw SDCC come back from an early deficit to take the lead at 13-10 after a 9-2 run. After a VU timeout, the Lions attacked back with 15-5 run to close out the game.
SDCC fought back in game two after being down 15-21. Behind serves of Chelsea Rose and Rachel Allen, the Hawks cut the lead to one at 21-22. The Lions were able to take the next three points to take the game.
VU jumped out quickly in the third game and went on top 12-4. SDCC battled again to cut the lead to 15-10. Unfortunately, the Lions were too much, taking the game and the match.
SDCC was led by Stephanie Rice who had 15 digs. Cassidy Mertens and Allen combined for 30 assists, while Allen also added 7 kills. Senior Lauren Howard contributed with a .300 hitting percentage and 8 kills.
The Hawks welcome Hannibal-LaGrange University and Cal State San Marcos to campus on Friday for matches at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.
