The San Diego Christian College volleyball team traveled down the 8 freeway Tuesday night, only to be stifled by the #14 rated Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions in straight games 25-16, 25-14, 25-11. This was the fourth time in five matches that the Hawks played team ranked in the top 15 team in the country.
The loss drops SDCC to 5-18 and 0-9 in the GSAC while PLNU improved to 13-4 and 5-4 in the GSAC.
The first game saw PLNU jump in front quickly and keep the lead at a safe distance. The Hawks tried to cut the lead down with a 4-0 run with Shelby Broberg serving to cut the lead to 18-11, but the Sea Lions were too much and took the game 25-16.
The second game was tight early, but PLNU went on a 7-1 run to stretch their lead to 10-4. From there, the Hawks would only get consecutive points one more time in the game as the Sea Lions grabbed game two 25-14.
PLNU smothered the Hawks early in game three, jumping out to a 12-3 lead. SDCC was unable to mount any sort of a comeback and the Sea Lions completed the sweet with a 25-11 win.
Senior Lauren Howard led SDCC with 11 kills. Cassidy Mertens had 18 assists while Stephanie Rice and Chelsea Rose combined for 23 digs.
SDCC continues GSAC play on Saturday at Westmont College at 7:00pm.
