The San Diego Christian College men’s soccer team fell on the road Tuesday to the 11th ranked Concordia Eagles, 4-1. SDCC fell behind quickly and could not mount a comeback against a strong Eagle defense, showing why CU has only one loss on the season.
With the win, CU improves to 10-1 (4-0 GSAC) while the loss dropped SDCC to 2-8-1 (0-4 GSAC).
Both teams went back and forth early, with SDCC’s Justin Picou taking a shot in the 8th minute that sailed wide of the net. The Eagles took advantage of a penalty kick from Jose Tamayo in the 23rd minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Less than two minutes later, CU again was able to find the back of the net to jump up 2-0 and maintained the lead into halftime.
SDCC cut the lead in half in the 57th minute when Frank Zimmerman received a corner kick from Leandro Vienna and knocked the ball into the goal to cut the lead to 2-1. But the Hawks were unable to get any closer.
CU’s Christian Ramirez put the Eagles up 3-1 with his 15th goal of the season in the 64th minute and Edgar Orozco stretched the lead to 4-1 with a goal in the 65th minute.
Justin Picou had 2 shots on goal for SDCC in the game, while SDCC was outshot 13-6 for the game.
SDCC continues their season on Saturday on the road at Westmont College.
