San Diego, Calif. --The weather was cold and rainy, but the San Diego Christian College men’s soccer team refused to give into the elements, dropping a tough battle to cross town foe Point Loma Nazarene University 1-0.
Both teams played fairly conservatively as the rain kept pouring down and the field conditions continued to worsen. SDCC (2-6-1, 0-2) outshot PLNU (7-2-1, 1-1) in the first half 6-3, but were unable to find the back of the net and the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Sea Lions quickly attacked the Hawks at the start of the second half, scoring the only goal of the game just three minutes into the half. Griffen Fuller delivered a pass across the box to the right side, where Tyler Hall was able to knock it past goalkeeper Alex Cozzi for the score.
SDCC’s final opportunity came in the 82nd minute when Salvador Velazquez drilled a shot which was deflected before it could reach the goal.
SDCC was outshot in the second half 10-3, but Cozzi kept the Sea Lions at bay with five saves for the game and keeping the game within reach.
The Hawks continue GSAC play on Saturday against Biola at home with a scheduled start time of 3:30.
