El Cajon, CA--The San Diego Christian College volleyball team welcomed the Concordia Eagles to the Ryan Athletic Center Tuesday night. The Eagles (15-1, 5-0), ranked third in the recently released NAIA top 25 poll, continued their success this season with a straight game victory over the Hawks (5-14, 0-5).
The first game went back and forth with the Hawks keeping the game within striking distance and cut the Eagle lead to two at 8-6 on a Lauren Howard ace. CU then went on an 11-2 run to distance themselves from SDCC before winning the game 25-12.
The Hawks fell behind in the second game quickly, but fought back and nearly stole the game from the Eagles. The balanced SDCC attack from Howard, Mariah Boelk, Rachel Allen (Pictured left), and Shelby Broberg, saw the Hawks move from being down 17-10 and 19-14, to cut the Eagle lead at 23-20 late in the set. SDCC was unable to get past the CU attack and dropped the game 25-20.
The third and final game saw a tight contest early with SDCC cutting the lead at 7-5 before CU went on runs of 7-3 and 11-3. The Eagles posted a .333 attack percentage the final game.
Stephanie Rice paced the Hawks with 12 digs while SDCC gathered 32 as a team. Cassidy Mertens chipped in with 12 assists for SDCC.
The Lady Hawks continue their difficult schedule at home on Saturday, October 1st against Azusa Pacific University.
