The San Diego Christian College Lady Hawks volleyball team welcomed the four-time defending national champion Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on to the Ryan Athletic Center Friday night, falling in straight games 25-17, 25-8, 25-15.
The first game saw the Sunbirds (4-3, 1-0) pull away after the Hawks (5-10, 0-1) after SDCC cut the lead to two at 13-15 on a kill by Rachel Allen
. FPU was quick to respond with a 10-4 run to finish the game 25-17.
In the second game, FPU used three runs of five and a run of four to quickly take the game 25-8.
SDCC responded well in the third game and exchanged points with the Sunbirds before FPU pulled away and scored 10 of the last 12 points to win the match.
FPU had a balanced attack with three players collecting nine kills each while SDCC was paced by Senior Lauren Howard's
nine kills. Cassidy Mertens
had 13 assists for the Hawks and Stephanie Rice
had 12 digs in the loss.
SDCC continues GSAC play with a home match against Westmont College on Saturday, September 17th..
