El Cajon, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs announced their 2011-2012 schedule on Friday.
The men’s grueling schedule is highlighted by six exhibition games including one against NCAA Division II Grand Canyon University and five against NCAA Division I schools, including UC Irvine (Big West Conference), Cal State Northridge (Big West Conference), University of San Diego (West Coast Conference), NCAA Sweet Sixteen participant San Diego State (Mountain West Conference), and Utah (PAC 12). In addition, the Hawks have 13 games against NAIA teams with at 20 or more wins and 7 games against teams that qualified for the NAIA Championship Tournament last year.
“We are eagerly anticipating the start of the season,” said Head Coach Tim Cook. “This schedule has to be one of the most demanding in small college basketball. Hopefully this gives us the ability to prepare for the toughest NAIA conference in the country.”
“With the leadership of seven seniors on the roster, I am hopeful that we have the maturity to handle this kind of competition.”
The Lady Hawks’ schedule features 10 games against teams ranked that finished the season in the top 25 in the NAIA. The SDCC women also head on the road in exhibitions against NCAA Division II National Tournament participant Cal State San Bernadino and NCAA Division I University of San Diego of the West Coast Conference. Overall, the Lady Hawks have 15 home dates.
"We are excited about this season and our competition,” said Coach Kelsey Dillon. “We worked hard to get a balanced preseason schedule.”
“Our goal was to make sure we had good competition that would prepare us for conference play, but to go into GSAC play with a winning record."
