Santa Clarita, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College Volleyball team lost a hard fought battle to Arizona Christian University on Wednesday night as both teams opened the season against one another as they did last year. The results were not as kind to the Lady Hawks as last season’s opener as the Firebirds took the match in five games.
After a difficult 26-24 victory in the first game, ACU fought back, taking the next two sets 19-25 and 27-29. The momentum appeared to shift back to SDCC with a dominating 25-13 win in game four, only to see the game slip away with a 12-15 loss in the fifth and deciding game.
Senior NCCAA All-American Lauren Howard led the Hawks with 15 kills and 12 digs. In addition, Junior Rachel Allen chipped in with 11 kills, 15 assists, and 7 digs. Freshman Lauren Phillips had 11 kills and block in her first game in a Hawks uniform while Stephanie Rice added 12 digs.
The Hawks continue play in the Master’s Melee with two games on both Thursday and Friday.
