The San Diego Christian College women’s soccer kicked off their season with a win over Point Park University on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Hawks (1-0-0) battled back from a two goal deficit with three unanswered goals in the second half to gain a 3-2 victory of the visiting Pioneers. SDC started out strong, attacking the Point Park defense with eight first half shots; however, Point Park goalkeeper Liz Veles kept the Hawks scoreless through one stanza.
Point Park struck first, with an unassisted goal from Kileigh Williams. Just five minutes later, Destiny James scored off an assist from Lauren Evens and the first half ended with a 2-0 Point Park lead.
The Lady Hawks responded quickly in the second half when Senior All-Conference forward Hannah Waggoner scored on a penalty kick. Sophomore Kathlyn Reynoso scored the first goal of her SDCC career just five minutes later to tie the contest at 2-2. Finally, at the 68 minute mark, Senior Kelly Brakebill drilled the ball into the back of the net on a free kick to give the Lady Hawks the lead that they would not relinquish.
The Pioneers tried to gain back the momentum, but Senior goalkeeper Katelyn Ogle collected five saves for the game, including one as the game was winding down.
The Lady Hawks are 1-0-0 on the season and will play Menlo College on Saturday at 11am on the campus of SDCC.
