Coming off of their sixth win on Monday against The Master's College, San Diego Christian (6-31) dropped the first of two non-conference games against Point Loma Nazarene University (24-17) on Tuesday, 8-3.
The Hawks overcame their three error, two-run first by scoring three in the second on three hits to go up 3-2. There was one error in the inning, allowing both Chris Pascual (1-4, RBI) and Mike Bando (1-5, RBI) to single in the second and third runs.
From there out, the Hawks bats were silent, ending the contest with 5 hits. On the other side, four of PLNU's eight hits came in the 6th inning in which they found five runs to seal the non-conference win.
Hawks starter Joey Schumer (0-2) lasted five and two-thirds, facing 27 batters. He was responsible for five (earned) of the seven runs, giving up six hits and striking out one. Reliever Chris Gonzales (3-3) pitched the meat of the game, going 4 innings of hitless baseball. He struck out six in the process, walking three of the 16 Hawks he faced.
PLNU's Rashad Taylor (.339), who has a history of giving Hawks pitching a workout, was 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored.
