Lakeside, Calif. -- Forty-three runs were scored in Thursday's double-header against Azusa Pacific University with the Cougars sweeping San Diego Christian 16-12 and 12-3. APU stays in the playoff hunt with a 13-12 GSAC record and 20-16 overall. The Hawks are now 5-23 overall and 3-18 in conference.

The game started out with a pair of quiet innings, but Azusa's string of four hits with two outs broke the silence to put them up 4-0 in the third. A disasterous top of the fourth tagged two Hawks pitchers for a total of 8 runs on five hits, extending APU's run total to 12 after three and a half innings.

The Hawks started to pull it together in their half of the inning with David Kaczor's [pictured above] (.506 slug%) lead off homer to right, followed by two more runs on singles from Trevor Bloom (3-6, RBI, 2 runs), Gus Hernandez (4-4, 2 RBI, run), Christopher Pascual and Brian Charnock (3-5, 2 RBI, run). Although it was a small dent at the time, SDC got some help from lefty reliever Kevin Keefe in the fifth, who retired the side with two strike outs.

Christopher Pascual (3-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs) knocked his first jack of the year to left for three runs, but the Cougars put three more up on an untimely error in the seventh that plagued them until the close, despite out hitting APU 16-12.

Sophomore starter Nick Bando (0-2) took the loss for SDC after going three innings. He gave up four runs on four hits to the 14 batters he faced. Colby Gurney (4-3) went six innings, giving up 6 runs on 10 hits, striking out one.

Game two started off with Kaczor singling and scoring on a double from Bloom to put the Hawks up for the first time. SDC's starter Dylan Jones held APU hitless until the top of the fourth, with the Cougars picking up the tying run in the fifth.

The next two innings produced nine runs for Azusa with the help of three Hawk errors, making it 10-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. San Diego Christian would get a run in the eigth and ninth, giving APU the 12-3 win.

Morgan Wynne went seven in the win, giving up 2 runs, 6 hits and striking out 8. Jones faced 29 batters in his six and a third innings, striking out four.

Chad Inderwiesche was 2-for-4 with one of SDC's three RBI's and Bloom was 2-4 in game two, batting .500 on the day with 2 RBI.

San Diego Christian travels to Azusa on Saturday for the second half of the series, starting at 12:00pm.
