Santa Barbra, Calif. -- San Diego Christian (5-17, 3-12 GSAC) fell 11-8 in game one to Westmont College (14-15, 6-11 GSAC) on Thursday afternoon. The day was scheduled to host two of the four games in the series, but game two was routed by rain in the first inning.
SDC blew out of the gate with a five run first, with senior designated hitter Brian Charnock (1-5) earning two RBIs on his one hit of the game for the third and fourth runs. Westmont etched away at the Hawk 5-0 lead, scoring one in the third, three in the fourth and sixth, and four in the fifth. Senior third baseman Mike Bando (2-4, walked), holding a .305 batting average, bombed a 2-1 pitch to close out the Hawks eight game one runs, just shy of Westmont's 11.
WC's Ryan Sullivan took the win in relief, pitching three and two-thirds innings. The Warriors offense posted 13 runs, but had much help in four errors from the Hawks defense. Hawks reliever Jeremy Blare took the loss in one inning, giving up three runs, two earned on two hits.
Game two of the series will be rescheduled. Please refer to the Hawks season schedule for when that game will take place. Meanwhile, the Hawks will host the Warriors on Saturday in a double-header beginning at 12:00pm.
