La Mirada, Calif. -- The Hawks (5-16, 3-11 GSAC) took the second game of Saturday's double-header from Biola University (16-10, 10-4 GSAC) 14-4 after giving up an 8-run lead in the seventh inning and the eventual 10-8 BU game one win.
SDC blanked Biola through the first six innings and scoring 8 runs through seven. The BU seventh was the beginning of a meltdown that would end in a two home run ninth, one as a walk off from Garrett Leon (1).
Senior Ryan Inverso [pictured left] cracked his second home run of the season, ending game one with three RBIs and crossing the plate twice. The SDC bats were hot, showing three doubles, a home run, and seven singles. Sophomore Nick Bando (0-1) took the loss for the Hawks, taking responsibility for the five that came in in the ninth.
In game two the bats continued to connect. This time there weren't any home runs, but four Eagle errors and fourteen SDC hits to give the Hawks 14 runs through seven innings off of the BU staff. In another positive for SDC, Marco Solis pocketed his second win and second complete game of 2011, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking five.
Inverso (2-5, 3 runs) and junior Victor Martinez (2-4, 1 run) both had three RBIs on the day. The Hawks had as many hits as runs, with Trevor Bloom, Chris Pascual, and Gus Hernandez having two RBI's a piece. Bloom was 5-for-8 on the day with his second triple, scoring four runs and three RBIs, while Inverso capped his day going 3-for-8 for 6 RBI's and 6 runs.
The Hawks take on out of town team, Carleton College starting at 3:00pm on Monday, March 21 at Stars Field.
