CSUSM Sweeps Five Game Series

Escondido, Calif. -- Junior outfielder Taylor Maddox went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in the 7-2 loss against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars, who swept all five games against the Hawks improve to a 12-9 record on the season while SDC chalks another loss, now 3-10 overall and 1-4 in GSAC.

It started out well for the Hawks, who found the two runs early on Maddox's two run single in the second. The bottom of the second tied it up for the Cougars with two walks, a hit by pitch and a double. From then on out it was all San Marcos with SDC only finding two hits in the remaining 8 innings. Hawks pitcher Joey Schumer took the brunt of four runs from CSUSM, finishing out the last four innings, facing 19 batters. The Cougars scored 7 runs on 9 hits by games end with the help of 7 walks and two hit batters.

Matt Kretchmer earned the win for CSUSM in 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and walked two of the 25 batters he faced. Junior Mike Garcia is tagged with the loss for the Hawks.

SDC travels to Vanguard University on Wednesday for a double-header game set starting at 10:00am.
