San Diego, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College (3-9, 1-5 GSAC) charted their first conference win on Saturday, keeping Point Loma Nazarene University (8-4, 4-2 GSAC) from sweeping the series. PLNU snatched the first game of the day 13-12 in the bottom of the 11th and SDC redeemed themselves with a 6-3 win in 7.
Seniors David Kazcor and Ryan Inverso homered in the first inning of game one putting SDC on the board quickly. Both teams continued to rack up runs, exchanging leads, with SDC putting the tying run up (10-10) in the top of the 9th. After a scoreless tenth, three hits brought in two runs for the 12-9. Three walks from Hawks pitching in the bottom of the 11th, set the Sea Lions up for a three-run win clinching inning. PLNU's Maurice Wilhelm, who had secured two saves in the previous games, got the win, while junior Greg Joseph was tagged with the loss.
Sophomore Nick Bando was 3-for-4 and junior Taylor Maddox had a double and a single for two RBIs.
Marco Solis earned his first win of the season in game two giving up three runs on five hits, striking out three of the 26 batters he faced.
PLNU's two runs on four hits in the second was overshadowed in the SDC fourth by 8 hits for 6 runs, which would prove to be enough for the win. Kazcor, Maddox and Trevor Bloom were 3-for-4 with one of Kazor's double's bringing in two of SDC's six runs. Bloom was 6-for-10 on the day, with 2 RBI.
SDC closes out the series of games with CSU San Marcos in San Marcos starting at 2:00pm.
