Azusa, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College closed out the 2010-11 season at No. 3 Azusa Pacific University on Saturday with a 78-58 loss. APU, who had clinched the GSAC championship prior to Saturday, finished the season with a 26-4 overall record and an 18-2 record in conference. SDC finished tenth in the GSAC with a 3-17 record, 8-20 overall.
The first half showed the Hawks competing with the top ranked Cougars, hitting 13-31 from the field to APU's 15-31. Three-point shots (5-12 3Pt-FG) kept SDC close, also giving Heather Serven 11 points as she owned 3 of the teams 5 first half three's. APU out rebounded SDC in the first 27-11 for 11 second chance points on their way to a 35-33 halftime lead.
The second half wasn't as pretty for SDC who scored only 25 points in the half, shooting 32.1% (9-28) from the field. APU matched their first half efforts leading by as many as 23 with 5:03 to go. Serven would finish with 15 points, 2 assists (6-12 FG, 4-9 3Pt-FG, 4-5 FT) and senior Melissa Villalobos ended with 15 points and 3 rebounds in her final game.
Cougar Alex Moore-Porter was 12-15 from the field for 28 points, 7 rebounds and center Kristie Hala'ufia had 14 rebounds.
In season ending stats for the Hawks, junior guard Brittany Robinson led the team in points per game (13.5), field goals per game (4.3), 3-point field goals made (2.2/gm), and rebounds (5.5/gm). She finished with 379 points, 155 rebounds, 61 assists, and 56 steals. Freshman Jermani Daniels was second on the team in rebounds (128, 4.6 rpg), but first in offensive boards with 62. Junior Jasmin Thomas led the team in assists with 73 (2.7/apg) and Villalobos, who led the team in steals (75), closing out with the second highest point total with 301.
