Riverside, Calif. -- The California Baptist University (14-12, 8-9 GSAC) Lancers pulled away in the second half for the 67-50 win over the San Diego Christian College (7-20, 1-16 GSAC) Hawks on Tuesday night.
SDC hit shots early, taking an 11-6 lead at 13:45, but shortly after the Lancer's began raining three point shots. CBU was 12-28 (42.9%) with 4 of their 5 three pointers coming from Justus Von Wright, who totaled 18 points and 5 rebounds on their way to the 34-29 halftime score.
Three Hawks closed out the half with 5 points a piece as a part of the 50% (12-24) shooting.
Out of the half, SDC took a small lead, 38-34 but let it slip away to a ten point CBU advantage. SDC would come within two of the tie at 49-47 with 9:17 to go, but CBU's finish left the Hawks down by 17 at the final buzzer. Cal Bap shot 50% (12-24) in the second half, 46.2% overall to SDC's second half 7-25.
In going 3-5 from the field, 1-1 from downtown and 4-5 at the line, Benji Arvizu [pictured left] held the point high for the Hawks with 11. Arvizu also had the team high 5 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Other team leaders included senior Tyler Mutton with 4 assists and Calvin Seaberry with 5 rebounds as well.
CBU's Von Wright pocketed a double-double with 10 rebounds, 26 points (9-15 FG, 5-7 3PT) 3 steals and an assist.
SDC's next game and second to last home game takes place on Saturday, February 19 against Westmont College.
