El Cajon, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College (7-19, 1-15 GSAC) 40th anniversary celebration was continued on Saturday afternoon with the Hawks GSAC contest against the No. 18 Biola University (22-4, 12-4 GSAC) Eagles. Unfortunately, the Hawks were defeated 67-45.
In the effort, top scorers Jason Starr [pictured left] and Tim Sanders (4-8 FG) combined for 19 points and junior forward Calvin Seaberry had a team high 7 rebounds.
SDC held the lead for the first eight minutes, but it wasn't long before BU shook off the pressure and pushed out to a 15 point lead, taking a 32-19 score into the locker room. SDC struggled from the floor, hitting only 7-23 (30.4%) and a rare 1-10 from the three, quite a deviation from their 39.9% per game avearge. Biola put up a 45.2 shooting percentage (14-31) from the floor led by Josh Miller who was 6-8 for 13 points.
BU built on their 13 point difference throughout the half, leading by as many as 27 with 5:22 to go. The Hawks shooting (10-25 FG, 40.0%) was an improvment from first half totals, but not enough to put a significant dent in the Eagles lead. BU was 11-25 from the field and 11-16 at the line in the second. By games end, the Eagles out rebounded SDC 39-27 and forced 14 SDC turnovers.
California Baptist is SDC's next opponent. They'll be traveling to Riverside on Tuesday, February 12, to take on the Lancers starting at 7:30pm.
