Fresno, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College was downed 78-62 on Saturday to give Fresno Pacific University their first GSAC win of the 2011 season. Fresno improves to 8-16 overall and SDC drops to 2-12 in the GSAC and 7-15 overall.

SDC and FPU hovered within points of eachother through the 10 minute mark (14-13 SDC) until a five point streak from Sunbird Callie Rohrbacker set FPU on their way to a 36-23 halftime score.

Junior guard Brittany Robinson had 10 points (3-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt) to lead the Hawks in their 30.8% shooting from the field (8-26). FPU was 16-29 from the field (55.2%) with Jessica Torrecillas putting up 11 points (5-6 FG). The Hawks kept their first half fouls to a minimum, sending FPU to the line only 3 times.

The opening of the second half didn't fair well for the Hawks, with FPU bounding out to a 48-28 with 15:00 remaining. SDC would come within 12 at a few points in the final three minutes, but the FPU 61.1% shooting (11-18) and half 17-20 free throw shots made it difficult for SDC to mount a comeback. SDC shot 46.7% in the half and 39.7% overall, hitting 23-58 and a mere 12-25 at the line (48.6%).

SDC had a hard time getting their hands on rebounds, watching FPU out rebounded them 25-8 in the first and 21-10 in the second. The Hawks did force 20 turnovers out of the Sunbirds, collecting 10 teams steals.

Robinson closed out with 15 points, 3 rebounds and an assist, while freshman Jermani Daniels was 6-9 from the field for 13 points, but only 1 of 6 at the line. She had 2 steals and a rebound. Senior Melissa Villalobos was the last Hawk in double-digit points with 10 (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT). Junior Juanita Lewis had a team high 4 steals on the night.

The Hawks play 25 minutes down the highway at Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday (Feb. 8) for their next match up. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30pm in Point Loma.
