Santa Barbra, Calif. -- Westmont College (13-4, 5-3 GSAC) hosted the Hawks on Saturday night, pocketing their fifth GSAC win of the season 76-57. San Diego Christian falls to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in conference.
SDC started out with back to back three's, pulling away by 7 on their third team three pointer at 11-4 around 13 minutes in. But minutes later two three's and a jumper from the Warriors stunned SDC who found themselves suddenly down by 1 point. Westmont allowed SDC to come within three on a Tim Sanders layup at 27-24, but went into the locker room with a 9 point lead (34-25).
Westmont closed out the half shooting 37.9% (11-29) from the field while SDC hit 7 of 20, also shooting 6 of 8 from the line. Both teams had 5 three's a piece with a majority of SDC's coming in the opening minutes. Senior Tyler Mutton was 2-5 from three point range, leading SDC with 6 points.
The second half was a sore subject for the Hawks who's 44.4% (12-27) shooting was overshadowed by 14 personal fouls that sent WC to the line 17 times for 11 points. Westmont blocked four Hawk shots, out rebounded SDC 40-30, and forced 15 total turnovers on their way to the 76-57 win.
Junior Keenan Patterson was on fire from behind the three point line in the second half, going 4 for 4 on the night for the Hawks top scorer with 12 points.
Three of Westmont's players finished in double-digits with Blake Bender recording a double-double with ten rebounds and eleven points. He was at the line for 7 of WC's 27 appearances at the charity stripe.
San Diego Christian travels to Vanguard University on Tuesday, January 18 for a 7:30pm game in Costa Mesa, California.
