El Cajon, Calif. -- The Hawks (6-7, 1-3 GSAC) were outpaced by The Vikes (9-8, 8-4 CW) of University of Victoria (Canada) on Wednesday night falling 61-48 in the exhibition.
It was an unforunate showing on Wednesday compared to Tuesday nights team efforts that earned them the 79-52 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene. SDC shot 34.5% (19-55) to UVic's 41.9% (26-62), with the Vikes making points count off the Hawks 18 turnovers and hitting momentum shifting three's (6-16).
SDC had corralled an 8 point lead at 15-7 when the Vikes string of three point shooting (3) brought them within one at 17-16. The shift gave the Vikes what they needed to steal away to a 29-24 lead at half.
The second half was a continuation of that momentum swing for the Vikes, who maintained their cushion with the help of a cold shooting period from the Hawks. UVic mounted a 14-0 run that left SDC down by 22 with 3:53 left, eventually carrying out the 61-48 win.
Not one player for the Hawks crossed into double-digit points. Junior Tim Sanders had 8 points (3-6 FG, 2-2 FT) 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. Senior Paul Wolf pulled down the team high 6 rebounds.
SDC hosts La Sierra University on Friday, December 31 for their last nonconference game of the 2010-11 season. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm at the Ryan Athletic Center.
