El Cajon, Calif. -- On Tuesday, The San Diego Christian College Hawks (5-6, 1-3 GSAC) faced William Jewel University, a team that has qualified for the NAIA National Tournament 7 out of the last 9 years, falling 81-70. San Diego Christian is now 5-6 overall and 1-3 in GSAC and WJU improves to 8-5 overall, with an undefeated 3-0 record in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Turnovers and shooting percentage were the hot points of the battle between the teams, as 57 total turnovers were recorded and a 27.4% difference from the field in favor of WJU by games end.

SDC scored on a fastbreak off the tip-off, holding a 5 point lead at 9-4, their only significant lead of the game. WJU took control of the score at 13:55 on a layup by game point leader Katie Bond who had 28 points (10-14 FG, 3-3 3PT, 5-11 FT). From there the Hawks went cold, sinking a total of 6-28 from the field (21.4%), while WJU closed the half out with a 32-21 lead. WJU was 13-24 (54.2%) with 15 turnovers.

The second half defecit became 17 for the Hawks with 17:28 to go, but was whittled down by 12 points off converted WJU turnovers. SDC forced 25 Cardinal turnovers, but WJU covered their tracks shooting 63% from the field. The second half shooting for the Hawks (48.4%), while an improvement from the first, couldn't contend with the Cardinal 16-22 streak.

Though overshadowed by WJU's lead, junior Brittany Robinson had 21 points (6-13 FG, 6-11 3 PT) boosting her average to 14.4 points per game. She also had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal for the Hawks. Senior Melissa Villalobos put up 15 points, 5 steals (3.7ppg) and three rebounds and junior Juanita Lewis was 3-6 from the field and 3-4 from the line for 9 points and 6 rebounds in her first game with the Hawks.

San Diego Christian hosts University of Alberta (Canada) on Wednesday, December 29 starting at 5:00pm at the Ryan Athletic Center.
