81-71 Win Over Buffaloes

El Cajon, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College sealed a come from behind 81-71 win on Thursday night over the Buffaloes from Milligan College in Tennessee (3-7, 0-0 AAC). The Hawks now have five wins on the season, six losses and are 1-3 still in GSAC.

Milligan earned a quick four points with the help of SDC cold shooting and turnovers, pulling away to a 13-2 lead five minutes into play. The Hawks collected themselves and pushed forward, hitting the bulk of their 7 first half three point shots to recover enough ground to take a 34-33 lead with 5:54 to go. They would close the half out with a 41-37 lead, scoring 22 points off of Buffalo turnovers.

The Buffaloes were 16-26 (61.5%) in the first with Hudson Fricke holding the point high with 16 points. Fricke was 6-9 from the field and 2-5 from downtown. SDC also posted impressive numbers hitting 15-27 shots (55.6%) from the field and 53.8% from downtown (7-13).

The Hawks had lost the lead once to the Buffaloes in 17 minutes of second half play, consistently holding single digit lead. But in the last five minutes, Fricke's 12 second half points gave Milligan momentum to even the score at 70-70 with 2:39 to go. The Hawks entered into the double bonus right after the tie, building the 81-71 win in the final minute on successful free throws.

Senior Tyler Mutton (pictured above) finished the night with 18 points (6-14 FG, 4-10 3Pt) and 2 rebounds. Senior Jason Starr was 4-8 from the field and 3-5 from three point land for 12 points and 3 steals. Senior Paul Wolf had 9 points, 9 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist.

The Hawks were outshot from the field 54.9% to 45.8%, finding the edge from behind the three and in steals. SDC finished with 18 steals, forcing the Buffaloes to turn the ball over 24 times.

Fricke, who prior to Thursday night, averaged 16 ppg, pocketed the a personal high 28 points, shooting 10-19 from the field, four three's and hitting four of five free throws.

SDC's next game is on Tuesday, December 21 at the Ryan Athletic Center at 1:00pm against William Jewel University out of Missouri.
