Overtime with FPU, 86-79 Loss

El Cajon, Calif. -- San Diego Christian fell in overtime on Saturday night 86-79 to Fresno Pacific University. The hard loss dropped the Hawks to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in conference while FPU improved to 3-1 in GSAC and 8-3 overall.

Junior Xavier Mylleville set his personal game high with 20 points, going 6-6 from the field and 8-13 from the line. He pulled down 6 rebounds and had 2 assists as well. Senior Tyler Mutton came in with 18 points, going 5-12 from downtown, bringing in 6 rebounds and an assist. Junior Tim Sanders swatted two balls, tallied 8 assists, and went 4-4 from the field for 9 points.

Four significant lead changes took place throughout the first, with FPU getting the upper hand at the half, 44-36. FPU's last major stretch to an 11 point lead (44-33) piggy backed on Matt Christman's 4 three-point shots, giving him 12 first half points. Mutton and senior Jason Starr led the Hawks with 9 points each and Mylleville was 100% from the field (3-3) and 2-2 from the line. FPU topped the percentages shooting 56.7% (17-30) to SDC's 44.4% (12-27), 60% from behind the arch and 4-5 (80%) on free throws.

Fresno stretched their lead to 15 around, hitting two jumpers and a three out of the locker room. The Hawks chipped away at the gap, keeping within five through the last seven minutes of regulation, tying the game with a 1:57 to go on a drive to the basket from Mylleville. Unfortunately, the Hawks eagerness resulted in rushed shots, while the Sunbirds shot 75% from the field (3-4) and 6 of 12 points at the free throw line off of the 6 SDC fouls.

By games end, both sides shot at or near 50%, with FPU hitting 9-16 from downtown. FPU's Jordan Wild, who went to the line 8 times in overtime, put up 19 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.

SDC begins a stretch of non-conference home games starting at 7:30pm on Thursday, December 16 against Milligan College out of Tennessee.
