Irvine, Calif. – San Diego Christian College (4-5, 1-2 GSAC) men’s basketball had a rough night against the No. 6 Concordia University Eagles (7-2, 3-0 GSAC) on Tuesday, dropping their second GSAC contest 92-57.
Junior Xavier Mylleville had the point high for the Hawks with 12, before fouling out with just under 9 minutes to go in the game. He went 4-7 from the field and 4-4 from the line with 3 rebounds, a steal and a block. Junior Tim Sanders came in behind Mylleville with 11 points (5-9 FG), 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Hawks struggled out of the gate, letting CUI fastbreak their way to a 7-2 lead. That was the way of the first half, with Concordia capping their 16 point lead at 4:52. SDC would cut that lead to 8 (41-33) by the end of the first. Mylleville was 4-5 from the field and 2-2 from the line for 10 points for the Hawks. SDC shot 44.8% in first, sinking 13-29 and hitting 5 of 6 free throws.
Out of the locker room, the Hawks edged within four at the 2:40 minute mark on a pair of free throws from Mylleville. Unfortunately, the nationally ranked Eagles began to showcase their ability, blanking the Hawks 20-0, bringing the margin to 31 points at 75-44. The Eagles extended their lead to 37 with 49 seconds to go, but junior Tim Sanders jumper closed the game out with a 92-57 score.
SDC’s shots were ice cold in the second, shooting 28% (7-25) and making 9 of 17 attempts at the line. CUI held SDC to only 24 points in the second half, while they ran the floor for 51 (18-38 FG, 7-12 3Pt, 8-12 FT).
Fresno Pacific University makes the trip to the Ryan Athletic Center on Saturday, December 11 for the next GSAC contest. The game is scheduled to start around 4:00pm, after the women’s game at 2:00pm.
