Fullerton, Calif. -- San Diego Christian pocketed their first GSAC win over the now 7-2 Hope International University Royals, 57-53. SDC improved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the win.

Senior Aaron Felix finished atop the Hawks charts in the teams lowest scoring game of the season with 14 points (6-13 FFG), 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Junior Xavier Mylleville, who's free-throws came in handy at the end of regulation, hit 6-8 ending with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Viktoras Asaciovas joined Mylleville with 6 of the Hawks 34 team rebounds, also going 2-3 for 5 points.

Buckets just wouldn't drop on either end in the first half, with HIU getting the short end of the deal as SDC had a 16-4 lead with 6:51 left. A few of HIU's attempts started to fall, winding out their 16 point half shooting 17.4% (4-23) and 0-5 from the line. The 20-16 score favored SDC at half, with the Hawks shooting 33.3%.

A somewhat different story unfolded in the second half with both teams posting 37 points. HIU posed a comeback, tying the game at 26, but were smothered by the Hawk defense, allowing SDC to maintain a small lead throughout the remainder of the game. The Hawks victory came down to the final minutes when the game hovered around a 4-6 point margin in favor of SDC. Earlier in the half it appeared that free throws would be the open door for the Royals to sneak back, but the Hawks sealed up the win with the help of Mylleville's four free throws and lay up in the final minutes.

SDC travels to Concordia University to take on the No. 5 Eagles at 7:30pm on Tuesday, December 7. Last year, the Hawks had a habit of rising to the challenge against top ten nationally ranked teams, defeating no. 2 CUI 80-75.
