San Diego, Calif. -- Division I NCAA San Diego State University Aztecs hosted the San Diego Christian College Hawks in their 2010-11 season home opener in front of 5,674 fans, defeating the Hawks by 19, 88-69. SDSU, out to a strong 6-0 start, unveiled their 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship banner prior to tip-off, complimenting their recent No. 18 rank in a recent Associate Press polling. While this was a regular season contest for the Aztecs, San Diego Christian listed the high profile game as an exhibition, keeping their 3-4 overall record intact.

Senior Aaron Felix (pictured below), who has averaged 14.0 points per game, led the Hawks with 21 points, going 5-5 from the line as the main contributer to the Hawks 100% (9-9) free throw percentage. Felix held the games highest point total, also tacking on 5 assists in his 33 minutes on the court. Junior Tim Sanders (pictured above) played solid defense, recording a block and 5 defensive rebounds, 7 overall. Sanders contributed on the offensive end as well hitting both free throws, 2 shots from the field, and 4 assists with only one turnover. Senior Tyler Mutton was the games' first half point leader (12) finishing with 19 points (12.1 pts/g), two assists and a steal. Mutton shot 7-13 from the field, 3-6 from downtown and hit both of his free throws by games end.

SDC's starting five, Viktoras Asaciovas, Keenan Patterson, Felix, Sanders and Mutton faced a starting five whose leading scorer averaged 18.8ppg over five games. The Hawks shrugged off the apparent mismatch, running both their offense and defense with high energy, mixing things up on both sides of the court. State did maintain the point advantage throughout the game, with the Hawks drawing within one on a layup from junior Seth Koenig at 23-22 with 7:19 remaning. The Aztecs pushed away from the tight score, taking a 44-34 lead into the half.

At 48-37, State began to build a 24 point lead (78-54) that SDC would narrow to 19 by games end. SDSU moved the ball well in the second, getting inside on many occasions, scoring 28 of their 44 points in the paint. The Aztecs shot 60.3% from the field to SDC's 42.4%, but only 44.4% from the line, sinking 4-9.

SDC resumes GSAC play on December 4th against Hope International University. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm in Fullerton, California.
