Helena, Mont. -- Now 3-3 overall, the San Diego Christian men's basketball team defeated the 2009 NAIA Champion Rocky Mountain College (4-3) Battlin' Bears, 88-78 to close out the Carroll College Tournament in Montana. This win was their second win against RMC this season.
San Diego Christian, a team that has excelled from beyond the arch in past games, buckled down at the line tonight, shooting 91.4%, making 32 of 35 and clinching their third win of the season. They also shot a season high 52% from the field, with 4 players finishing with double-digit point totals.
Senior Tyler Mutton's (pictured left) twenty points led the Hawks with junior Jason Starr (pictured right) close behind with 19 points. Both Mutton and Starr shot 100% from the line with Mutton sinking 10-10 and Starr 8-8. Mutton also had 8 rebounds and three steals. Junior Xavier Mylleville was also 5-5 from the line and 5-10 from the field for 15 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Senior Aaron Felix finished with 13 points and a team high 4 assists.
SDC lead by as many as twenty points in the second half after closing out the first with a 45-33 lead. The twenty point lead dwindled as sloppy play in the deep part of the second allowed Rocky Mountain to come within 10 on a made RMC three with 4:37 to go. The Hawks managed to capitalize on the Bears fouls in the final minutes to keep the lead and win.
The Hawks next game takes place home on November 23 (Tuesday) against The Master's College to open the 2010-2011 Golden State Athletic Conference contests. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm at the Ryan Athletic Center.
