Helena, Mont.-- San Diego Christian (2-3, 0-0 GSAC) dropped their first match up of the Carroll College Tournament on Friday, 73-63 to host team Carroll College (4-2, 0-0 FC).
The Hawks faced a definite challenge as Carroll's head coach Brandon Veltri, also in his second season, led the Fighting Saints to a Frontier Conference playoff appearance in 2010. CC fell by 1 (65-64) to Rocky Mountain College, the Hawks opponent in their last tournament game on Saturday.
Seniors Tyler Mutton and Jason Starr both shot 5-12 from the field, ending with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Mutton was 4-9 from behind the arch and was credited with 2 assists. Junior Tim Sanders pulled down the team high 6 rebounds, scoring 5 points as well.
Statistically, the Hawks led in most overall catergories, shooting 51.7% in the second, but it was the Fightin Saint's chances at the line that gave them margin for the win. SDC was down 44-23 at half, pulling within 10 towards the end of the game. CC was 10-14 in the second on free throws giving them 20 points from the line by games end.
SDC rounds out the Carroll College Tournament with Rocky Mountain College, who fell to the Hawks in early november 68-59. To view the game online, click here.
