San Diego, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College women's basketball played the NCAA Division I University of San Diego Toreros in an exhibition contest on Tuesday night, falling 94-49.
The Toreros, picked sixth overall in the preseason's coaches poll for the West Coast Conference (WCC), presented a high level of competition for the Hawks, preparing them for the tough GSAC conference ahead.
Junior Brittany Robinson had 17 points and five rebounds with junior Jasmin Thomas and senior Melissa Villalobos adding 8 points each.
The chances were there in the first, but SDC couldn't put the ball in the hoop, shooting 18%, making 5 of 27 shots. USD shot 63.6% from the field, leading at one point by as much as 25. Emily Hatch owned 12 of the 26 USD rebounds, finishing the game with 21. Robinson had 14 of the Hawks 27 first half points, hitting 6 of her 8 free throws and freshman Jermani Daniels held 4 of the teams 15 rebounds.
USD's 49-27 halftime lead doubled by games end as the Toreros held SDC to 22 points in the second half. The Hawks improved on the floor in the second, shooting 9-for-30 (24.6%).
SDC resumes regular season play on Saturday, November 13 at La Sierra University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm in Riverside.
