No. 7 BU Sweeps SDC 3-0

La Mirada, Calif. -- In their second to last game of the 2010 season, San Diego Christian (9-19, 2-17 GSAC) volleyball traveled to Biola University (25-7, 16-3 GSAC) where the No. 7 Eagles swept the Hawks in 55 minutes, 25-11, 25-14, 25-10.

Junior Lauren Howard again led in kills for the Hawks with 7, hitting a .294 clip with 2 errors in 17 attempts. She also recorded 2 aces, 2 digs and a solo block. At the net, senior Valaree Bergman had three block assists and junior Jessica Brazynetz added 6 digs in the back court.

BU had all the momentum in the first set, jumping out to a 8-1 lead that they would carry into a win in 15 minutes. BU hit .250 to the Hawks .-129 with Kim Russell leading the Eagles with 5 kills.

They brought it again in the second, with the Hawks breaking into double digits in the sets final points. At match point, SDC pushed for five points with two straight aces from Howard, but a kill from Christine Douglas closed the set at 25-14. BU hit an impressive .682, recording only 2 errors in 22 attempts.

Eagles Abbie Wright served the first 7 points, giving the Eagles their 8th ace of the night. Howard broke the streak with her 8th kill, only to have the Eagles surge to a 14-4 lead. Higgins and Valaree Bergman twice blocked the Hawks within 8 points at 14-6 and 15-7, but a Biola 10-3 run finished out the Eagle senior night with a win.

BU's leading hitters, Tavea Hampton hit .529 totaling 11 kills with 2 errors and Kim Russell had 10 kills with one error, hitting a .643 clip. Libero Lindsay Dietzen had 14 digs for the Eagles.

SDC's last game falls on Saturday, November 13 against Vanguard University. The Hawks will also honor their seniors Valaree Bergman, Rachel Blair and Jessi Higgins along with the parent's of the players. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm with senior appreciation taking place prior to the first serve.
