El Cajon, Calif. -- Kim McCalmont with her second double-doule of the season totalled 11 kills (.250), 14 digs and one ace in the 3-0 loss on Tuesday to the No. 14 ranked Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions. The Hawks drop to an overall record of 8-16, and a 1-14 record in GSAC while the Sea Lions improve to 14-10 overall, 8-7 in conference.

Lauren Howard had 8 digs, 1 solo block and a block assist and Jessica Brazynetz finished with 8 digs. Setters Cassidy Mertens and Rachel Allen had 15 and 12 assists respectively.

The lead teetered back and forth in the opening set with Loma propelling to an eventual 17-11 lead starting with three aces from Nicole Eiler. SDC had Loma stalled at 24 for three points, but PLNU pushed out the last point, ending the set at 25-18. PLNU hit .400 with 18 kills in the first.

In set two, Alyssa Pitkin served the first 7 straight points. On McCalmont's serve at 6-12, the Hawks brought themselves within 2 on errors by the Sea Lions. Unfortunately Loma would recover from the setback taking the Sea Lions to a 25-14 win.

Set three was the best overall set for the Hawks, but they were nudged out of a win by the Sea Lions at set point, 25-23. SDC took a 10-8 lead on a series of Sea Lion attack errors, stretching their lead to 5, 16-11, on Allen's one ace of the night. Pitkin's serve pulled the Sea Lions within one on an ace, tying it up on the next point at 18. It was tight to the end as kills by Howard, Sigourney Rockmore and McCalmont balanced out the Sea Lion's two blocks, keeping them neck and neck to 23-23. Loma took the set and match on the final two points.

SDC travels to Westmont College on Saturday (Oct. 30) to play the Warriors at 7:00pm in Santa Barbra.
