El Cajon, Calif. -- Junior Nicole Quintanilla (pictured left) put away two unassisted goals in the Hawks (4-9-3, 0-6-2 GSAC) 4-2 loss on Tuesday to the No. 10 ranked California Baptist University Lancers (11-4-1, 5-3-1 GSAC). The goals are the Hawks first since playing Point Loma Nazarene in the beginning of October.
SDC took a few minutes to find their feet in the back as they were missing three from their original starting line up due to injuries from Saturday's APU game. While the Hawks sorted it out, CBU worked the ball in the SDC half, taking five shots with two being on frame. On their 6th shot, Kylee Nicassio one touched a cross in near post for their first goal in the 17th minute. CBU scored again in the 34th and 37th minutes, carrying the 3-0 lead into the half.
Junior Katelyn Ogle had 5 saves in the 8 shots taken on her, 14 total by the Lancers. Nicoline Jorgensen had two shots on her in the first.
With the 3-0 cushion, Cal Baptist played with composure, but less urgency than in the first half, giving room for Quintanilla (56) to rock a shot from twenty yards out that tucked under the crossbar, right over Jorgensen's reach. CBU then scored ten minutes later on a deep shot that skipped right under SDC keeper Emily Garbez who had 6 saves in the half.
SDC's second and final goal came in the 69th minute off a foul 40 yards out. Quintanilla took the free kick, teeing up for her second goal of the game on a high floating shot that slipped through Jorgensen's grip.
The Hawks have a make up game on Friday, October 29 at Concordia University at 1:00pm and then turn around on Saturday (Oct. 30) to play their final game of the season at Hope International University in Fullerton.
