El Cajon, Calif. --
Bianca Silva, Clare Wohlfeil, Emily Garbez (pictured left) and Sarah Le (pictured below) were honored before Saturday's contest with No. 3 Azusa Pacific University (12-1-2, 7-1-1 GSAC). It was the last weekend home game of 2010 that the Hawks (4-8-3, 0-5-2 GSAC) unfortunately dropped 2-0 to the Cougars.
It was a defensively based game for the Hawks who held the nationally ranked Cougars to only three shots on goal in the first half. APU worked to find a rythum, but were unsuccessful until a free kick in the 50th minute.
The SDC foul set up a header pass by Kelsey Walker that Jacquline Conforto one touched to break the 0-0 tie. SDC continued to play tight in the back through the physical APU challenges, hoping to even the score.
But before the Hawks could put one away, another goal snuck in on a cross from Natalie Sun to the head of Laura Feehs in the 84th minute.
Senior Emily Garbez came out of the goal with 8 saves in 81 minutes. The Cougars finished with 23 shots, 10 on goal while SDC had four shots, but none reaching the hands of keeper Alexa Douglas.
The Hawks host the California Baptist University Lancers on Tuesday, October 26th beginning at 3:00pm.
