El Cajon, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College (8-15, 1-13 GSAC) took on the No. 6 California Baptist University Lancers (24-4, 11-3 GSAC) at Steele Canyon HS on Saturday night, falling 25-12, 25-15, 25-15.
Rachel Blair led the team with 10 digs. Sigourney Rockmore had 2 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs and 2 block assists. Cassidy Mertens (pictured left) had 13 assists, Shelby Broberg put up a solo block and two block assists, and Lauren Howard topped out the kills for the Hawks with five.
It was a rough night across the board for SDC, who stayed with CBU through the first 7 points of the first and second set, but couldn't find footing after the 7-7 tie. SDC had trouble surfacing to a positive hitting percentage through all three sets, while Cal Baptist hit a team .355, posting 10.5 blocks.
SDC plays No. 14 Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday (Oct. 26) at 7:00pm.
