Tues., Oct. 19, 2010 [Box Score]
Azusa, Calif. -- It was an encouraging match for San Diego Christian (8-14, 1-12 GSAC) on Tuesday against the No. 13 Azusa Pacific University Cougars (22-4, 9-4 GSAC) despite the 3-1 loss (12-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-10).

Rockmore, led the Hawks with 15 digs and 11 kills, recording her first double-double of her career. Lauren Howard was the kill leader with 12. She also had 9 digs, three block assists and an ace. Cassidy Mertens had a season high, 29 assists and Shelby Broberg had a season high 4 solo blocks and 3 block assists in the match.

The Hawks have a knack for coming alive in the second set, regardless of the opponent. In the last four games, SDC has won or been within four of their opposition. The story was so against the Cougars. The Hawks hit .361

Broberg blocked APU out of their first potential lead in the second, posting 2 solo blocks. The Hawks led until APU evened the set at 12-12, then again at 13 and 14. A series of three Howard kills broke the final tie, giving SDC the 17-14 lead. The Cougars attempted to sneak back, but met two more blocks from Kim McCalmont/Valaree Bergmann and Broberg/Howard with the Hawks finishing them off with two kills.

The other sets were similiar in that APU pulled away near early double-digits building a considerable gap the Hawks couldn't catch up to.

SDC plays again on October 23 (Saturday) at 7:00pm against California Baptist University. The game has been moved from the Ryan Athletic Center to the Steele Canyon High School gymnasium.
