El Cajon, Calif. -- No. 1 Fresno Pacific University (21-0, 11-0 GSAC) lengthened their win streak to 64 matches with the 3-0 win over San Diego (8-13, 1-11 GSAC) 25-13, 25-21, 24-15.
Highlights for the Hawks included hitting .421 in the second set, leading 14-11 over FPU. The Sunbirds stepped up to their challenge, hitting .550 to counter the Hawks 12 kills.
Kim McCalmont held the overall stats for the night with 8 kills and 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Lauren Howard had 9 kills, hitting a .304 clip with an ace, Jessica Brazynetz had the team high dig count with 6 and Cassidy Mertens had 23 assists and 2 kills.
Fresno ran the floor in the first set, where SDC hit .042 with 7 kills, three from Howard. The third set had SDC with a one point lead at 3-2, but a mix of Sunbird kills and SDC errors let the lead slip leading to the FPU win.
FPU setter Emily Carroll had 38 assists and three Sunbirds had double-digit kills. Martina Gregusova led the game with 13, hitting a .500 clip, and Lisa Schilling hit .615 with 10 kills and 2 errors in 13 attempts.
